Ummahat AlShaykh Hotel 12, the resort is designed by British architecture studio Foster + Partners (Arch) and AKTII (Engineers) as part of The Red Sea Project. The project aims to draw international tourism to KSA’s western coast and provide an experience of “barefoot luxury”
Shyam was responsible for procurement, design, project and contract management of several hotels including Ummahat Al Shaykh hotel 11 and 12. The hotel includes 90 keys (hyper luxury), independent pavilion structures for the shared amenities and front- and back-of-house facilities and are altogether connected with networks of pathways and jetties.
The designs minimise any on-site works and interventions by relying heavily on off-site factory fabrication – a key principle within TRSDC’s environmental commitment. A modularised constructive system integrates the envelope, structure and services into prefabricated components which are then transported to site and simply assembled.
The Red Sea Project’s goal is to be “100 per cent carbon neutral. The resorts will be powered entirely by renewable energy. Single-use plastic will be banned and no waste from the hotels will end up in landfills.
